SUMMARY:Emerging Technologies for Energy-efficient Neuromorphic Edge Compu
ting
DESCRIPTION:Special Session (Research)\n\nThis special session aims to dis
cuss various approaches to neuromorphic computing for edge AI applications
focusing on emerging technologies, novel architectures and sensing modali
ties to enhance perception. We will have an introductory tutorial dedicate
d to current strategies to achieve low-power computing at the Edge based o
n CMOS and post-CMOS technologies. Then, we will focus on limitations of c
urrent solutions and introduce four different strategies to overcome such l
imitations in the remaining talks. These talks are related to four Europea
n projects funded under the same call entitled “Ultra-low-power,\nsecure p
rocessors for edge computing”. These projects aiming at reducing by two or
ders of magnitude current energy consumptions and with budgets between 8 a
nd 10 million Euros gather a large number of academic and industrial key E
uropean players on computing technologies. The second talk discusses desig
n strategies in the CONVOLVE project for SoCs dedicated to edge AI applica
tions by taking a holistic approach to design space exploration. Trade-offs
tackling the whole tool chain will be presented to achieve substantial im
provements in energy consumptions. The third talk discusses the neuromorph
ic approach taken in the NimbleAI project combining a vertebrate eye-inspi
red foveated DVS chip\ncoupled with an insect eye-inspired microlens array
to sense and process light fields at different resolutions with minimal la
tency and energy consumption. The final talk discusses the development of
neuromorphic accelerators based on integrated photonics in the NEUROPULS p
roject. Photonic architectures leveraging phase-change and III-V materials
for neuromorphic computing will be presented. We expect this session to f
oster opportunities to link these initiatives at the EU level with similar
initiatives worldwide.\n\nInvited: Neuromorphic Vision Modalities in the
NimbleAI 3D Chip\n\nThis talk will discuss the neuromorphic approach in Ni
mbleAI project combining a vertebrate eye-inspired foveated DVS chip coupl
ed with an insect eye-inspired microlens array to sense and process light
fields at different resolution levels with minimal latency and energy cons
umption. This sensor enc...\n\n\nXabier Iturbe (Ikerlan Technology Centre)

AI SoCs. These SoCs need to support high throughput and energy-efficient p
rocessing, with a short time to market and at least 100 times more energy-
efficient while offering sufficient flexibility and ...\n\n\nHenk Corporaa
